About Profet
Hi, I'm Matteo — I built Profet. I'm currently doing an MSc in Financial Economics at Oxford, and this site started, quite literally, from a lecture-hall argument about whether markets are actually as good at aggregating information as the theory says. The easiest way to find out was to build one and see what actually happens when real people put their opinions on the line against each other.
Why a prediction market, and why free
Real-money prediction markets are genuinely one of the best tools we have for finding out what's actually likely to happen -- better, on average, than any single pundit, poll, or expert. But almost everyone is locked out of them: real-money markets mean real regulation, real financial risk, and in most countries, they're either restricted outright or wrapped in enough friction that a casual, curious trader never bothers. That felt backwards. The interesting part was never the money -- it was putting your own judgement on the line and finding out, honestly, whether you were right.
So Profet strips the money out and keeps the rest: everyone starts with free credits (plus a regular top-up), trades directly against other people rather than a bookmaker's fixed odds, and the actual stakes are your record -- your rank on the leaderboard, the badges you earn for calling things early or correctly, and your own forecasting track record over time. There's genuinely something to win: your reputation as a trader, and -- as this grows -- real prizes for whoever's calling it best.
